About this trip →Our name
Locomotive No. 99 left the builder’s shops in 1912 and came north to work the creek railway that served the gold fields. Crews chalked her number on the roster board as “NN”. On her first run up Bonanza she still wore white primer and carried a wedding party bound for Grand Forks, so the miners nicknamed her “the Bride”. The two names merged into one.
The creek line closed in 1914. No. 99 spent most of the next century as a static display in Whitehorse. A team of volunteers and retired railway machinists restored her between 2019 and 2023 and converted her to oil firing. She returned to steam on the rebuilt track in 2024.
“She’s well over a hundred years old, she runs on time, and she still turns heads on Front Street.” Conductor Barnaby
On board
Four costumed hosts ride the Bride. Children collect a stamp from each one on our Crew Stamp Card, and a full card earns a brass-look No. 99 pin.
